JAMU FOR VOMITING

Jamu Recipes for Vomiting

PATHO-PHYSIOLOGY:
 Vomiting is a natural reflex to protect the body against the entrance of unwanted substances or micro-organism. It is closely related with nausea a condition that happens prior to vomiting. The cause of vomiting vary broadly from disorders or diseases in the central nervous system like; meningitis, cerebral commotion or head trauma, brain cancer, motion sickness, anxiety, middle ear infection as well as local GI tract disorders like; gastroenteritis (intestinal flu), intestinal obstruction, peptic ulcer, appendicitis. Other systemic diseases that might cause vomiting: glaucoma, hepatitis or jaundice, kidney infection.
The most common form of vomiting is caused by motion sickness, gastroenteritis, hepatitis, middle ear infection and head trauma.

INDICATIONS:
 Vomiting

Recipe # 1
 

INGREDIENTS:

Ripe coconut flesh (Cocos nucifera, kelapa tua) – 1 thumb-size cut
Garlic (Allium sativum, bawang putih) – 2 cloves
Galangal rhizome (Alipinia galangal, rimpang lengkuas) – ¾ finger-size cut
Long pepper (Piper retrofractum, cabe jawa) – 3 pieces
Sesbania grandiflora – leaves (daun turi merah) – ¼ handful of leaves
Palm sugar (gula enau) – 3 finger-size cuts

PREPARATION AND DOSAGE:

Cut all ingredients to small pieces then bring them to boil in 2 glasses of pure water. Let it boil until left to ¾ portion of the initial volume. Strain after cooling. Drink 1 glass of the decoction, 2 times a day.

Recipe # 2

INGREDIENTS:

Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans, buah pala) – 1 piece of fruit

PREPARATION AND DOSAGE:

Decoction: Peel the fruit and remove the seed. Fine grind the peeled nutmeg and steer with 1 glass of boiled water. Add the honey and stir well. Drink 1 glass 1 or 2 times a day.
