Jamu Recipes for Rheumatoid Arthritis
REMARKS: -
PATHO-PHYSIOLOGY:
Rheumatoid arthritis or rheumatism or synovitis, tends to affect people over
the age of 40, and women two to three times as frequent in men. It may also
occur in children, particularly girls from 2 to 5 years old age. It is
characterized by inflammation and pain in the hand, especially in the knuckles
and second joint, as well as in the arms, legs, and feet, and by general
fatigue and sleeplessness. It can also cause systemic damage to other parts of
the body including the heart, lungs, eyes, nerves, and muscles. The discomfort
of rheumatoid arthritis can develop over weeks or months and tends to be most
severe and awakening.
Rheumatoid
arthritis in older people may eventually cause the hands and feet to become
gnarled and misshapen as muscles weaken, tendons shrink, and the ends of bones
become abnormally enlarged
INDICATIONS:
Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis: painful swelling, inflammation, and stiffness
in the arms, legs wrists, or fingers in the same joints of both sides of the
body, especially on awakening.
Recipe # 1
INGREDIENTS:
Gendarussa
leaves (Justicia gendarussa-folia, daun
gendarusa) – ½ handful
Datura stramonium – leaves (daun kecubung ulung) – 5
leaves
Lempuyang
emprit – 5 finger-size cuts
Purple
ginger (Zingiber purpureum, bangle) –
2 finger-size cuts
Ginger
(Zingiber officinale, jahe) – 3
finger-size cuts
Rice
(Oryza sativa, beras) – ¼ cup
PREPARATION
AND DOSAGE:
Topical:
steep the rice in pure water for about 3 hours. Clean wash the other materials
and fine grind them with the rice. The ground mixture can be used as topical to
be applied onto the painful joints.
Recipe # 2
INGREDIENTS:
Cat’s
whisker leaves (Orthosiphon spicatus-folia,
daun kumis kucing) – ½ handful
Child
pick-a-pack stalk and roots (Phyllanthus
niruri, batang meniran berikut akar) – 3 stalks
Mulberry
leaves (Morus alba-folia, daun
murbei) – 7 old leaves
Ginger
(Zingiber officinale, jahe) – 2
finger-size cuts
PREPARATION
AND DOSAGE:
Decoction:
Peel, clean wash and bruise the ginger. Clean wash the other ingredients, and
put it together with the ginger, and boil in 5 glasses of pure water. Let it
boil until left to 3 glasses and strain after cooling. Dosage: ½ glass 3 times
a day. Taking this decoction regularly for 2 weeks, the condition may get
better.
