JAMU FOR OSTEOPOROSIS

Jamu Recipes for Osteoporosis

PATHO-PHYSIOLOGY: Osteoporosis is a condition that causes formerly strong bones to gradually thin and weaken, leaving them susceptible for fractures. Although all bones are affected by the disease, those of the spine, hip and wrist are most likely to break. In elderly people hip fractures can be particularly dangerous, because the prolonged immobility required during the healing process often leads to blood clots or pneumonia. About a third of elderly women with hip fractures died within six months.

INDICATIONS: Symptoms of osteoporosis: backache; a gradual loss of height and an accompanying stooped posture; fractures of the spine, wrist, or hips; loss of bone in the jaw that can be identified by a dental x-ray. Note: Osteoporosis is usually asymptomatic until a fracture occurs.
